Today in one of my classes, II Peter 2:1 came up in relation to the Calvinist doctrine of limited atonement. For those out there who hold to limited atonement, how do you interpret this verse? Thanks for any help you can provide.
“But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction.” (ESV)

I read it as “who (supposedly) bought them.” The writer is looking at it from the perspective of the false teacher?
I see them in the same category as Judas Iscariot, who also denied Christ and who also brought upon himself swift destruction.
Thanks for the thoughts guys. If nothing else, it raises to my mind the importance of remembering that the bible is not a systematic theology textbook! I will keep researching this one, though, and let you know if I run across anything really helpful.
